Good features, activation took time

I bought the BMW Connected Package Professional last month. The features like Real Time Traffic Information and Concierge Services are really useful for my daily commute. The My BMW App integration is also pretty seamless. However, the activation process took a bit longer than I expected after purchase, about 48 hours for everything to fully sync up and start working properly. I think they could improve the onboarding experience to make it quicker for new subscribers. Value-wise, it's a solid offering for what you get, but that initial delay was a minor inconvenience.

Remote Start purchase experience

I was hesitant about the cost of Remote Engine Start but decided to go for it. I picked it up during a small promotion they had, which saved me a bit. Activation was quick, within a few hours. It's super handy in the cold mornings here in Calgary. For the convenience, especially with that small discount, it felt worth the money. Good value.

How fast does the remote start or any other digital service activate after you buy it? Like, if I buy it today, can I use it right away?

R Rachel Mitchell 1 month ago
usually pretty quick, like within a few hours. i bought remote services once and it was active by the time i went to my car. sometimes it can take up to a day though.

mine took a bit longer, i think it was almost 24 hours. i saw someone else say they had to restart their iDrive system for it to show up. so YMMV.

Anyone know when they usually have sales on these services? Don't wanna pay full price if I can help it.

usually black friday is the big one. sometimes around boxing day too. i've gotten renewal discounts emailed to me before but those are less common.

yeah it's pretty much just black friday. they don't do public promo codes or anything like that for these. just gotta wait for the big sales periods.

Thinking about getting the remote start. Is it worth it for Canadian winters or is it just a gimmick?

A Amber Jackson 1 week ago
totally worth it man. especially when it's like -20 out, being able to warm up the car from inside is a lifesaver. the steering wheel and seat heating kicking in automatically is a bonus.

i got it during a black friday deal last year. for a few months it's great, but honestly i forget to use it sometimes. depends how much you're willing to pay for the convenience i guess. you can usually get a free trial to see if you like it.

Hey, thinking of getting the Connected Package Pro. Is it really worth it over just Apple CarPlay? Seems like a lot of overlap.

J Jacob Parker 2 weeks ago
I had the same question! It bundles a lot of the useful stuff like RTTI and concierge. Apple CarPlay is good for navigation and music, but the Pro package adds features like the intelligent personal assistant and hazard preview, which are neat. You can often get a free trial to see if you like it.

Nah, honestly, if you mostly use your phone for everything, CarPlay is probably enough. The Connected Package Pro has some cool extras but for me, the core stuff is covered by CarPlay. Plus, you'd be paying for two separate subscriptions basically.

Does the Digital Key work with Android phones yet or is it still just for iPhones?

K Kyle Taylor 2 weeks ago
I think it's mostly iPhones right now, at least for the full functionality. I have a Samsung and can't use it. Might depend on your specific BMW model too, but it's pretty limited for Android afaik.

Yeah, still mostly Apple. Some newer Android phones might have limited support but it's not like the full UWB integration iPhones get. Check their compatibility list on the website to be sure.
